Smoky Eyes
From Domicella's wikiStyle
Smokey eyes are a dramatic look for the evening.[1]
Smoky Eyes Application
- Line both the top and bottom of your eyes with eyeliner;[2] try either black pencil, creamy black pencil, or liner, or dark shadow for colors/method.[2][1][3] Black liner can make your eyes look smaller. Instead of using black on both the top and bottom, try lining your lower lid with a cream-colored eye pencil (white can be too bright).[2]
- Smudge the eyeliner with a cotton swab.[2]
- You can optionally start with white eyeshadow on the entire lid.[1]
- Apply eyeshadow using a medium, smoky color.[1] You can also try a shimmery medium gray color.[2] You will be layering the eyeshadow to get the intensity you want, not trying to get the full intensity in the first blast. There are a few, sometimes opposing approaches regarding the location of the color intensity. Try them all and see which method you prefer:
- The color should be darkest by your lashes, so start at the outer corner and apply the shade across your lid using feathery strokes and staying close to your lash line. Use the brush to blend the shadow up to the crease.[2]
- Or, add a deeper color on top and in the crease to intensify the look.[1]
- Or, concentrate the shadow on the outer half of the eye.[3]
- Add another layer of the eyeshadow if you want to increase the intensity. For subtle smoky eyes, you want just a halo of gray around your yes, not dense black shadow.[2]
- Using the eyeshadow applicator, softly retrace the penciled eyeliner area with a very sparse amount of eyeshadow.[3]
- Dust what's left on the brush from your crease to your brow bone, then blend everything into a soft haze by whisking your brush over any edges of color.[2] Or instead of using your eyeshadow color to dust your brow bone, try dusting off with your foundation powder on the brow bone.[3]
- Reload the brush with shadow, tap off the excess, and sweep the bristles back and forth in the crease[2] or finish using your fingers to soften the shadow.[1]
- Curl your lashes and apply mascara.[2]
- If the shadow looks too intense, brush a little translucent powder on your lids.[2]
- To create smoky eyes, you need to wear foundation. Apply a medium-coverage or semimatte formula after you finish your eye makeup.[2]
- Blush - Try swirling a matte rosy pink or soft peach blush on your cheeks.[2]
- Lip color - You don't want a lot of color or sparkle; start with a nude or soft pink gloss.[2] However, if you want a very dramatic overall look, you can use a dark lipstick.[1]
