Hair gel is a styling product that gives hair body and shape.[1] The main hair gel choices are:

  • Water-based gels consist of polymers that form a film around individual hairs, making them easier to shape.
  • Spray gels that deliver tiny droplets of polymers

[1]

Gel works well on virgin, waved, curled, relaxed, and textured hair in the long run. It can be used for styling techniques such as freezing, sculpting, molding, and scrunching. Good quality gels will also moisturize and condition your hair for many days.[2] Look for a styling gel without alcohol if you have trouble with dry scalp and dandruff. Alcohol tends to cause dryness.[1]

Application

Dispense a nickel-sized (or even dime-sized[1]) amount of gel in one hand and use both hands to rub it into your towel-dried hair. Style the hair to your liking. Blow-dry if you want maximum hold or dry naturally for a shiny look.[2]
