Eyeliner
From Domicella's wikiStyle
Eyeliner is a type of makeup worn around the edges of the eyelid as well as the bottom of the eyes. The purpose of eyeliner is to not only change your eye’s shape, but also fill in sparse looking lashes. Eyeliner is used for emphasizing the shape of the eye by framing the eyelid and accentuating the lash line.[1]

Types
Pencil – Pencil eyeliners are the easiest to apply and are the most common. There are three types:
- Traditional wooden: Firm and resistant to fading
- Kohl: Smooth and good for smudging
- Mechanical: Produces a thin line and self-sharpening
Liquid, gels, and creams - Gives a high degree of precision, is more dramatic in its effect, and lasts longer than pencil types. However, they are much harder to apply. Due to its dramatic effect, some argue that liquid, gel, and cream eyeliners are more appropriate for the evening.
Picking the Color
Colors that blend with your mascara will look more natural.[1]
- Light eyes - Brown, navy and charcoal
- Green eyes - Taupe and deep green
- Brown eyes - Brown, plum shades, sandy taupes
Eyeliner Application
- Wipe off any existing makeup with remover. Then brush a small amount of translucent face power across lids.
- If you are using pencil, sharpen your pencil and skim the tip along a tissue to soften it. Hold the pencil eyeliner as you would a normal pen
- Tip your head back slightly and look down at the mirror.
- Close your eyes half-way.
- Start with the top of the eye. Place your middle finger at the outer corner of your eye and gently lift the skin up and out slightly, toward your temple.
- Position the pencil on the outer corner of the lash line and tilt the tip slightly so it’s on its side
- Draw inward along the lash line in short strokes, creating a series of dashes[3] and wiggling the pencil in between the roots as you go. Stop just past the iris. Then connect the dashes. The top application of eyeliner is done. Next, go to the bottom of the eyes.
- The bottom of the eye: using your ring finger, lightly press the skin just below the center of your lower lash line.
- Place eyeliner tip on top of the lashes at the outer corner and slant it so the side rests on the lash line.
- Draw inward, right on the lash line, creating a series of dashes. Stop just after the iris. Connect the dashes.
- Sharp lines can make eyes look smaller, so soften the edges by gently blending them with a wedge makeup sponge.
- If you're using liquid liner, allow it to dry before opening your eyes all the way, or the color may transfer into the crease of your eye.
- Use a stiff eyeliner brush to cover and set liner with a matching powder eye shadow.
- To make wide-set eyes look closer by lining just the outer corners. To help close set eyes appear farther apart, line across your top lid from the inner corner to just past the middle. If eyes are droopy, line the upper lashes from the middle to the outer corner, thickening the line as you go.
- To make dark eyeliner less dramatic, line just the outer edge of your upper lashes, slightly past the eye.[4]
