Sunglasses
Sunglasses are not only an important fashion accessory, but also important for proper eye care.
Health
The correct sunglasses can help prevent cataracts or at least slow the onset of cataracts, all else being equal. [1][2] Sunglasses will also help prevent crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes) and may even help eliminate crow’s feet with consistent wearing. [3] [4] Choose sunglasses that bloak at least 99 percent of UVB rays and at least 95 percent of UVA rays.[5] Sunglasses labeled "UV 400" have the highest protection against UVA and UVB rays.[6]
Sunglasses Structure
1. Frame
2. Lens
3. Bridge
4. Arm
Frame
The sunglass frame holds the lenses in place and provides the supporting structure of the sunglasses. Frames can be different shapes and suit different face shapes. Typical shapes include square, rectangular and round and are commonly made of plastic, acetate or metal. Common frame styles are aviator, wraparound and oversized. Selecting the right frame shape and color depends on face shape since the shape of the frame should contrast with the shape of the face and preference. When it comes to the size of the frame, the bottom of the frame should not fall below the nose, but large frames can remove attention from a big nose. People with high cheekbones look good in aviators because of the way that the bottom of an aviator frame hits just above the crest of the cheekbone to accentuate it.
Lens Lenses come in many different colors and shades and are typically made of glass, plastic or polycarbonate. Another lens option is polarized lenses which can reduce glare, making them useful for outdoor activities and driving.
Bridge The bridge of the sunglass frame connects the two sides of the frame together across the bridge of one’s nose. Bridges range from 16 to 22 millimeters wide. The bridge should comfortably rest on the top of one’s nose without pinching or sliding. Nose pads can help reduce sliding
Arm The arm of the sunglass refers to the piece which props the sunglasses on each ear. Arms are typically 120 to 140 millimeters long. Each arm should comfortably rest on top of one’s ears and slightly curve behind the ears.
Sunglasses Color
Frames Dark frames can make a full face appear thinner and light frames can make a large forehead appear smaller. Frame colors that complement hair and skin color are best for not letting sunglasses overpower your features.
Lenses People with darker colored eyes may not be as sensitive to light and can opt for lighter shaded lenses. However, if you have light colored eyes or are sensitive to light, darker lenses might prove helpful.
Choosing the Right Sunglasses
Oval Face Oval faces are considered "balanced." Hence, almost any sunglasses shape will fit you.
Round face Frames should make the face appear longer and thinner. In general, look for frames equal to or slightly wider than the broadest part of the face. Minimize the curves and add definition with soft, angular, rectangular styles or double brow styles. Higher temples will create a longer profile. Sunglasses with brow bars also pull the eye upward, making the face appear longer. Frame suggestions : Wider frames with angular / rectangular styles
Diamond face This face shape has wide or high cheekbones with a narrow forehead and chin. Oval sunglasses will soften the contour of the face, although softly curved square frames will work as well. Make sure the styles are no wider than the top of the cheekbones. Frame suggestions : Oval, Square, Rimless
Square face This face shape consists of a strong jawline, a broad forehead and wide cheekbones. Reduce the angles with soft, curvy styles that will give the face some definition such as cat-eye styles. The classic ovals also works well for this face shape. Frame suggestions : Oval, Round, Cat Eyes
Oblong face Widen and shorten the face with sunglass styles that do not extend beyond the widest part of the face. Round or square shapes will look great on this face. Frames with short horizontal and long vertical lines also work. Decorative or contrasting temples add width to the face. Frame suggestions : Round, Square
Triangle shape This face has a narrow jaw and a wide forehead. Soften the lower portion of the face by accenting the eye area. Styles such as cat- eyes should angle outward at the top corner and be wide enough to balance the jawline. You can also try metal frames with rimless bottoms. Frame suggestions : Frames with a Straight Top Line, Cat Eyes
