Hair Blowout
From Domicella's wikiStyle
A hair blowout is the process of straightening hair with a blow dryer. Remove most of the moisture before using a hair brush. Some experts do not use a brush until 95% of the moisture is removed from the hair.[1]

Application: Hair Blowout
- Start with freshly-washed hair. If you have dry hair, condition in the shower. If you have fine hair, condition only the ends.[2]
- Blot hair, never rub, with a towel to get rid of excess moisture. You can't do a blowout with super wet hair or it will take forever.[2]
- Apply the appropriate styling products:
- Blast the roots. Remove the nozzle of an ionic dryer and set it on high heat and medium speed. Lift hair as you blast the roots, then rake your fingers from roots to ends, following each motion with the dryer.[1] Always keep the dryer moving; do not let it come to rest (concentrate) on one area of the hair because this may damage the hair.[3]
- Smooth the sides by making a horizontal part two inches back from the hairline, and clip up front. Reattach the dryer nozzle, and set it on high speed and heat to dry the sides and back.[1]
- Using a round brush, pull three inch-wide sections out to the side, wrap the ends around the brush, and secure with your thumb. Run the dryer up and down the section with the nozzle pointed down.[1]
- Unclip the front layers. Starting at your forehead, position the brush under the hair and pull each section straight up.[1]
- Roll hair back to the scalp, hold for a few seconds, and then unroll. Repeat until the top section is dry.[1]
- Blast hair using the cool setting to dry damp spots. Then smooth with a drop of serum or, if hair is fine, mist it with hair spray.[1]
Making Your Hair Blowout Last
- To nix oily roots or add volume after the first day, apply a little dry shampoo, ideally in a spary form, and lightly massage your scalp with your fingers.
- When it rains, twist blownout hair into a low, tight chignon and secure it with large U-shape pins. Release the hair when you're back inside. In winter, keep your ends sleek by leaving them tucked under the collar of your coat whenever you're outside.
- Before you go to the gym, twist hair into a bun and secure it with big U-shape pins. Position a terry band at your hairline to hold back layers; place it over bangs to keep them flat and smooth. Wait until your hair is dry before removing the band and pins.
- If course hair begins to get frizzy, smooth it by spritzing a heat-protecting product on hair and running a flatiron over the outer layers. A small half-inch iron is good for taming the tiny hairs around the face.
- Refresh a blowout that has fallen flat with a light spritz of water over the hairline and your part. This will reactivate the product that's already in your hair. Skip this if your hair tends to turn frizzy.
- When a blowout is on its last legs, revive your hair by twirling it in large sections around a one-inch barrel curling iron. This smooths hair and creates soft waves.
